A Wondrous Dream (No Bomb)

A WONDROUS DREAM–NO BOMB
(Tune of Joe Hill)

Last night I dreamt a wondrous dream
The world was safe and calm.
I dreamed that Harry Truman said
We’ll never drop the bomb.
We’ll never drop the bomb.

With sound Missouri common sense
Old Harry wisely mused
The human race could not survive
If nuclear bombs were used.
If nuclear bombs were used.

The world was in a ghastly war
With many millions dead.
We will not slaughter thousands more;
It’s time for peace, he said.
It’s time for peace, he said.

And so they threw the plans away
And all the world enjoyed
The fact that such as atom bombs
would never be employed.
would never be employed.

But then I woke and knew that back in 1945
Two cities in Japan were bombed
With few folks left alive.
With few folks left alive.
And now eight countries have the bombs
There’s 25,000 made.
They could be used by terrorists
Or tyrants, we’re afraid.
Or tyrants, we’re afraid.

We must all work to end the threat
That hangs o’er all our lives.
We have a duty to the world
To see that the kids survive.
To see that the kids survive.
