Four Occupy Songs–from the 99%

THE  NINETY-NINE PERCENT

(tune:  The Farmer in the Dell)

Words by Mischa Adams

We’re the 99%

We’re living in a tent

And what we really want to know

Is where our money went.

My uncle lost his store

Our jobs have gone offshore

There always seems to be enough

To finance one more war.

We worked for 30 years

Through hopes and dreams and fears

They siphoned off our pension funds

To bail out profiteers.

They took our homes away

Because we couldn’t pay

But even if we paid on time

We can’t trust B  of A.

They can beat us and put us in jail

But they can’t get us off their tail

We are the 99%

AND WE’RE TOO BIG TO FAIL!

SOLD OUT

(Tune:  I Got Rhythm)

Words: Jan Harwood

Banks got bailed out

We got sold out

Banks got bailed out

Now they’re ten times richer than sin!

Banks got bonus

We got butkus

Raise a ruckus

That’s how revolutions begin!

Now we’re movin’

Now we’re groovin’

We’ve been provin’

That together we’re a success!

Keep on tryin’

Occupyin’

Hopes are flyin’

We won’t settle for anything less!

We won’t settle for anything less!

WE AIN’T GONNA TAKE IT NO MORE

(Tune:  It ain’t gonna rain no more)

Oh, we ain’t gonna take it no more, no more

We ain’t gonna take it no more

We’re mad as hell and we’re here to yell

We ain’t gonna take it no more, no more!

We’ll stay right here till we make a change

or till the sea runs dry

We’ve just decided, it’s too lopsided

So we’ll stay here and occupy!

Oh, we got no house cause the bank foreclosed

We’ve no place left to go.

We losst our lease when they sent police

to throw us out in the snow.

Oh, the filthy rich want to have it all

Got billions more than they need

While the sick and the poor go from door to door

The rich are chokin’ with greed.

Oh, we ain’t gonna take it no more, no more

we ain’t gonna take it no more

We’re mad as hell and we’re here to yell

We ain’t gonna take it no more, no more!

WE AIN’T GONNA TAKE IT NO MORE!

THE YEAR OF OCCUPATION

(12 Days of Christmas)

On the first month of Occupation,  the people did agree,

We’ll take back the Land of the Free!

On the second month of Occupation,  we heard the people roar,

“Our country will stop waging war!”

On the third month of Occupation, the people all did say

We’ll make banks and Wa-aall Street pay!

On the fourth month of Occupation,  the people did declare:

The rich have to pay their fair share!

On the fifth month of Occupation,  the people all did rage–

Raise the MIN-I-MUM WAGE!

STO-OP MAKING WAR

RICH COUGH UP

ONE PERCENT MUST  PAY

AND WE’LL TAKE BACK THE LAND OF THE FREE!

On the sixth month of Occupation,  the people said, Good grief,

We must give folks mortgage relief!

On the seventh month of Occupation, the people all gave thanks

For new laws to regulate banks.

On the eighth month of Occupation, the people made a call:

We’ll have racial justice for all!

On the ninth month of Occupation,  the people all enjoyed

New jobs for the u-un-employed.

On the tenth month of Occupation, the people made a rule

That all kids could have a good school.

On the ‘leventh month of Occupation, a solemn vow was made

That lobbyists should never be paid.

On the twelfth month of Occupation, the people partied hard

THEY PARTIED HARD!

MO-ORTGAGE RELIEF,
